What do I get out of Get Set?

How much does it cost?
Are you at High School, Polytechnic or other Private Training Establishment?
- Check with your teacher/tutor or career advisor to see if your establishment already provides the Get Set course. If so, it is free.

What is this course worth to employers?
QualMaster has conducted extensive research to determine what it is that NZ employers want from their next employee, and with that in mind, the format for your online CV was created.
For example, employers told us that they highly value "soft skill" development such as:
- Effective Communication
- Motivation Skills
- Learning and Working Styles
- and Career Fit through personality and profiling analysis
So the Get Set course prompts you to think about each topic and then to asks you to input these details into your online CV.
From then on, when employers have a vacancy, their needs will be matched with your capabilities and if there is a good match you will be invited to formaly apply for the job.
How long does it take? How much work is it?
Expect to spend between 10 and 20 hours working through the 11 levels in the virtual workplace.
Your progress will be saved as you complete each level so you are free to login again any time that is convenient for you.
Also, you can revisit any level later to change the information you have stored there.
The course is online so you may login from any computer that has an internet connection, anywhere, anytime, day or night.
What do I need to do the course?
All you need is a computer with speakers or headphones, and an internet connection (dial up is ok, broadband is better).
You also need Flash version 9. You will be prompted to download it when you first load the webpage if you have an older version.
The course is online so you will be issued with a username and password that you will use to login to the course.
How do I do it? What does it involve?
- You will progress through 11 levels in a virtual workplace from a first person perspective.
- You navigate and interact with the characters by clicking on-screen buttons with your mouse.
- At each level you will be introduced to typical workplace environments by a different character who will share information and practical tips with you.
- As you move between floors you will receive additional insights from a character inside the elevator.
- Most of the information is presented in bullet point format and can be stored, and printed from the personal filing device.
- At the end of each level you will be quizzed on the content and prompted to insert content into your online CV.

How hard is it?
Access to the course material is easy because it is online and has a point and click interface.
But expect to learn new concepts, some of which you may find a bit tricky to understand at first.
You need to remember that the Get Set course has been created to help you learn about new concepts, so we encourage you to be determined to grow and stretch yourself.
It may help to focus on the end result: you will have a new set of skills, abilities and knowledge that will prepare you for the next career phase of your life.
